DOB: 5-19-1979
Eric Volz, an American citizen, is currently being held on charges of first degree murder in Rivas, Nicaragua. He has been wrongfully accused of the murder his former girlfriend Doris Ivania Alvarado Jimenez. Her murder took place on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 in San Juan del Sur, a small coastal town on the Pacific Coast of Nicaragua. After Doris' death, Eric went to the police asking about their investigation and offered to help, including an offer to bring in a private investigator and to pay for an autopsy. He continued to speak with the police over the next few days, hoping to be helpful and inquiring about the case. After her funeral, Thursday, November 23, Eric again asked the police about progress in the investigation at which point he was arrested.
Eric was formally charged, Monday, November 27, with first degree murder at a hearing in Rivas, Nicaragua where he is currently jailed.
At the time of the crime Eric was working with colleagues and meeting with public officials related to the magazine, establishing a very strong alibi. A number of those he was with have now signed declarations that are on file with the court attesting to Eric's presence in Managua.
Eric will appear at another hearing Wednesday, Dec. 6 at which his legal team will present their findings before a judge. At this time, Eric will either be released, or bound over for trial.

He is a graduate of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), with a major in Latin American Cultural Studies. He is fluent in both Spanish language and culture.
